Base pay range

$65.00/hr - $65.00/hr

NUCLEAR MEDICINE TECHNOLOGIST prepare, measure, and administer radiopharmaceuticals (radioactive materials) to detect and treat disease under the supervision of a physician. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides patient care and technical skills in the operation of nuclear medicine equipment for diagnostic and evaluation purposes.

Education

Graduate of an accredited nuclear medicine program at the associate’s or bachelor’s degree level.

Licensure

State specific; current and unrestricted license or registration to practice as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in the state of practice, as applicable. ARRT or NMTCB registration as per client requirements.

BLS Certification required.

Experience

One year of current Nuclear Medicine Technologist experience in the clinical setting.

IV start, PACS cardiac, bone and brain scan, liver spleen scan, lungs scan, renal Flow Thyroid studies, SPECT, Myocarial skills required. Philips and or NMTCB and EPCI, Medi Tech experience preferred.

Credentials

Current CPR at least; and other health and screening tests as required by specific facilities and/or regulatory agencies.

Environmental Working Conditions

Various client facility settings; possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.

Representative Duties And Responsibilities
  • Complies with ATC policies/procedures.
  • Complies with client facility policies/procedures.
  • Documents accurately and completely services provided.
  • Maintains confidentiality relative to patient care and facility practices in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • Provides patient care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness so that autonomy, rights, and dignity are preserved.
  • Communicates information effectively to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintains competency by participating in continuing education programs and meets state specific requirements.
  • Reviews physician orders and patient records to determine procedures required.
  • Prepares patient for nuclear medicine procedures by accurately assessing patient needs and providing patient education as appropriate to the individual patient.
  • Operates computer and nuclear medicine equipment for data acquisition, reconstruction of images, and documentation of images, and performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images.
  • Prepares patient films for interpretation by nuclear medicine physician.
  • Prepares radiopharmaceuticals, calculates correct dosages, and administers treatment to patients as appropriate.
  • Positions and adjusts equipment over the body area to be studied and operates the imaging systems.
  • Performs ordered laboratory tests on body specimens using radioactive substances.
  • Uses quality control techniques to ensure radiopharmaceutical quality and efficient and effective operation of equipment.
  • Uses protective lead shielding and constantly monitors the laboratory with radiation detectors to help safeguard the work surroundings.
  • Recognizes test results which may constitute critical clinical situations and notifies physician immediately as per facility protocol. Recognizes and responds to other patient emergencies according to facility protocol.
