Position Summary
Police Officer position to protect and serve students, faculty, staff, and visitors of UNC Greensboro campus through law enforcement and crime prevention. The selected candidate(s) will patrol campus, investigate complaints, enforce state laws and local ordinances using a Community Oriented Policing philosophy, develop preventative patrol techniques, and perform specialized duties to deter crime and promote safety and security practices.
Responsibilities- Patrol assigned area and respond to complaints or calls for violation detection.
- Apprehend violators, investigate complaints, assess and handle cases.
- Collect and preserve evidence, maintaining chain of custody.
- Testify in court proceedings as required.
- Perform specialized patrol and crime prevention duties.
- Execute traffic control and other law enforcement tasks within jurisdiction.
- Maintain community relations and uphold the campus Community Policing philosophy.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Probationary certification from NC CJETSC as a commissioned police officer.
- Successful completion of the agency’s designated field training program for new campus police officers.
- Ability to qualify for and complete a State of North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) academy, including background checks and physical/psychological requirements.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
- Minimum 20 years of age at appointment.
- Completion of UNC Greensboro orientation and a 12‑week department field training program during probation.
- Successful completion of state‑mandated probationary period.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to effectively handle public interactions and representatives of the criminal justice system.
- Experience as an Emergency Duty Employee (essential during adverse weather or emergencies). Ability to report outside normal schedule if required.
- Physical and psychological readiness as per NC Criminal Education and Standards Commission (physical exam, medical exam, psychological exam, drug test).
Must have a valid Driver’s License.
- Demonstrated ability to subdue resisting suspects and effect forcible arrest.
- Ability to defend oneself and use appropriate force.
- Operating law enforcement vehicles and pursuing fleeing suspects.
- Perform searches of people and buildings.
- Exercise independent judgment and comprehensive knowledge of legal documents (citations, affidavits, warrants).
- Command emergency personnel at accidents, emergencies, and disasters.
- Willingness to work day, night, and shift assignments.
- Free tuition for officers seeking continuing education at any university in the UNC System.

Salary range: $39,462 – $47,297 (entry-level). Police Officer I: $51,660 – $55,338. Police Officer II: $54,243 – $58,105. Police Officer III: $56,995 – $61,010.
