This position performs law enforcement work at a University campus or other State facility. With full powers of arrest, positions enforce the laws of the State and the United States Government. Positions have law enforcement authority ranging from traffic control to criminal investigations within a limited geographic jurisdiction. Work involves patrolling an assigned area for response to complaints or calls and for detection of violations in the enforcement of State laws and applicable regulations.
Duties include apprehending observed violators committing offenses, investigating violations or complaints in order to assess and handle cases, collection and preservation of evidence and the chain of custody, testifying in court proceedings and performing related work.
The primary mission of Police and Public Safety is to provide a safe and secure environment supporting the University s pursuit of research and academic excellence. Our highly dedicated law enforcement professionals continually strive to reduce crime, accidents and loss of property through investigative processes and effective community partnerships.
Minimum Requirements- Police Officer I to III: $57,000 - $62,843
- Master Police Officer I to III: $66,192 - $72,748
- Minimum Requirements for a Police Officer I: A High School diploma or GED. At least probationary certification as a commissioned LEO in the State of North Carolina. Final employment contingent on NC LEO certification within a period specified in appointment letter. All new LEO employment contingent on successful completion of the agency s field training program for newly appointed campus police officers.
- Applicants with two years or more of documented experience as sworn campus, local, state, or federal law enforcement officer may be eligible for appointment at a higher entry rank and level as follows (discretion of hiring agency):
Police Officer II: 2 years;
Police Officer III: 4 years;
Master Police Officer I: 6 years (degree reduces minimum by 1 year);
Master Police Officer II: 3 years at Master level or equivalent;
Master Police Officer III: 6 years at Master level or equivalent.
