Overview
The Department of Biology at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Pharmacology, starting preferably in August 2026. The appointment is expected to be at the assistant professor level, but an appointment at a higher rank might be considered for exceptionally qualified applicants. The department seeks a candidate who can develop a collaborative and innovative research program in pharmacology and/or toxicology related to animal models and therapy, molecular biology and signal transduction, systems biology, pharmacogenetics and precision medicine, or drug development and target validation with a focus on reducing health disparities.
The hired faculty is expected to show commitment to teaching excellence, teach biology courses at the graduate and undergraduate level, develop courses and curricula, direct students in research, and provide service to the University and community. The ideal candidate will develop and maintain a vigorous research program, secure extramural funding, and direct the research activities of Ph.D. and MS students in applied biological science and related areas, while mentoring undergraduate students.
A candidate whose teaching and research efforts promote the department’s mission and the College of Science and Technology (COST) strategic vision is highly desired. Collaboration with colleagues from the sciences, mathematics, and technology areas is encouraged.
The primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate level courses, conducting research, student advising, student mentoring and recruitment, curriculum development, scholarly activities, and other activities required for tenure. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engagement in accreditation procedures, program assessment, and service to the department, College and University as needed.
Responsibilities- Instructional: Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers; prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate students; initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions; prepare course materials (syllabi, homework, handouts); administer examinations and maintain related records; plan, evaluate, and revise curricula and instructional methods; maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
- Research: Keep abreast of developments in the field, conduct research, publish findings in professional journals, books, or electronic media.
- Administrative: Collaborate with business and community partners to improve programs and provide student access to opportunities (e.g., internships); supervise undergraduate or graduate teaching, internship, and research work; develop and maintain course websites; serve on academic or administrative committees; participate in student recruitment, registration, and placement activities; participate in campus and community events; advise student organizations.
