About the University

Located in North Carolina's third largest city, UNC Greensboro is among the most diverse, learner-centered public research universities in the state, with over 18,000 students and 2,500 faculty and staff across eight colleges and schools. The academic portfolio includes 69 majors in over 130 areas of study, as well as 51 master's programs, 23 doctoral programs, and 74 graduate certificates. UNCG is one of only 40 doctoral institutions recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for both high research activity and community engagement.

Founded in 1891 and one of the original three UNC System institutions, UNCG is consistently recognized nationally for academic excellence, access, and affordability. UNCG is ranked as the No. 1 most affordable institution in North Carolina for net cost by The New York Times and No. 1 in North Carolina for social mobility by The Wall Street Journal — helping first-generation and lower-income students find paths to prosperity.

Designated an Innovation and Economic Prosperity University by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities, UNCG is a community-engaged research institution with a portfolio of more than $67M in research and creative activity. The University provides an annual economic impact for the Piedmont Triad region in excess of $1B.

About the Team

The University Libraries are the crossroads of knowledge at UNCG — at the center of teaching, learning, and research. The University Libraries faculty and staff foster the success and impact of the UNC Greensboro community by promoting learning, retaining students, inspiring creativity, and enhancing research and collaboration in a diverse and innovative environment. The University Libraries' collections include over one million printed books, federal and state documents, and other print material.

The libraries provide access to 125,000 ejournals, 3 million eBooks, and almost 300,000 streaming films and audio files. Print and electronic materials were used 7.6 million times, over 200,000 people visited the libraries in-person last year, and millions of “virtual” visitors accessed the libraries' online resources, collections, and services. Jackson Library is currently undergoing a $98M renovation funded by a state capital allocation.

Expected completion is in 2028, offering an ongoing opportunity for collaborative strategic planning to shape the landscape of post-renovation services and resources. As of 2026, naming opportunities have been established to focus fundraising on specific post-renovation needs.
