The Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the College of Science and Technology at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty position in Statistics to begin in August 2026. The position is anticipated at the Assistant or Associate Professor level; however, exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered for appointment at the Full Professor rank. Applicants from all areas of statistics are encouraged to apply, with particular interest in candidates whose research expertise includes multivariate statistics, non-parametric statistics, computational statistics, survey and experimental design, or the application of statistics and machine learning to education or the social and behavioral sciences.
The Department seeks dynamic and collaborative faculty to join a growing and research-active team.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence. Responsibilities include teaching statistics and data science courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, developing curriculum and new courses, advising and mentoring students, and providing service to the University and broader community.
The ideal candidate will establish and sustain a robust research program in statistics and/or data science, publish in peer-reviewed journals, secure external funding, and supervise MS and Ph.D. students in statistics, data science & analytics, and related fields. Mentoring undergraduate researchers is also expected. Candidates whose teaching, research, and service contributions support the mission of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and align with the strategic vision of the College of Science and Technology and the University are highly desirable.
Collaboration with colleagues across mathematics, the sciences, and technology disciplines is strongly encouraged.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is an academic unit within the College of Science and Technology, seeking to provide undergraduate and graduate students with an inviting environment that inspires them to become leaders in their fields and areas of expertise. The Department of Mathematics & Statistics offers degree programs in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics & Data Science, and Mathematics Secondary Education at the B.S. level, Applied Mathematics, and Data Analytics at the M.S. level, and a doctoral concentration in Data Science and Analytics within the multidisciplinary Ph.D. program in Applied Science and Technology.
The Department also offers two minor programs in Applied Mathematics and Mathematics Secondary Education, and an undergraduate certificate program in Data Science & Analytics, and is a major contributor to an online graduate certificate program in Data Analytics offered by the Graduate College.
Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics or Data Science/Analytics by the anticipated date of appointment with experience and track record indicating excellent potential to conduct research and advise students, and ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department.
PreferredThe position is open to any area of statistics with preference given to those whose research expertise and interests lie in one or more of the areas of multivariate statistics, non-parametric statistics, computational statistics, survey and experiment design, or statistics and machine learning applied to education or social/behavioral sciences.
For the position of assistant professor, applicants must show strong research potential and commitment to excellence in teaching, learning and student success. Research productivity beyond the doctoral dissertation is expected. Postdoctoral research experience or equivalent industrial experience and strong statistical data analysis and programming skills are desirable. University teaching experience is a plus.
For an associate or full professorship, applicants should show evidence of excellence in teaching, learning and student success, and have an established research reputation, including success in securing extramural funding, record of publications and supervision of graduate students.
