Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit: The Center for Youth, Family, and Community Partnerships (CYFCP) builds the capacity of families, service providers, researchers, teachers, and communities to promote the well-being of children and youth. In partnership with colleagues from across the university and the community, the center carries out basic, applied, and action research; translates research into effective programs and practice;

infuses community perspectives into university research and teaching; facilitates strategic problem-solving processes; and promotes programs, practices, and policies that yield positive outcomes for children and their families.

Position Summary

The Collaboration Coordinator-Special Populations will foster collaboration and advocate for Family Voice & Choice in partnership with other service delivery systems, State agencies, and other relevant stakeholders, including the Department of Public Instruction and SAMHSA-sponsored national agencies with a focus on historically underserved populations in NC.

The Collaboration Coordinator also will work to establish a formal network or directory of different family, youth, and/or young-adult led organizations or roles within organizations across the State. This network or directory will help to facilitate future additional collaboration and coordination of individuals working to elevate the voice and perspectives of families, youths, and young adults across the state and help to make it easier than it is currently to identify who is engaged in this work throughout North Carolina.

The dedicated Coordination and Collaboration role within the Family and Youth Support and Education Program will be critical to the program’s ability to support local and State Collaboratives, while also remaining true to the SOC Values and Principles.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required; for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant undergraduate degree and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.
  • This position requires that the employee has relevant lived experiences related to personal and/or caregiving/family experience with a Serious Emotional Disturbance for at least 12 months.
  • This position requires that employees have experience working in some form of paid or unpaid Youth/Family Peer Specialist, Navigator, Partner, or other similar roles.
  • Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience with skills in the following areas: written and verbal communication skills, organization, and cross-agency collaboration and coordination.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Applicants who are certified or eligible to be certified as a Certified Family Peer Specialist is preferred.
  • Applicants who have experience working in a leadership role related to Youth and/or Family Peer Support and/or Education is preferred.
