Position SummaryThe term Graduate Assistant is the umbrella term that encompasses all types of GA appointments. Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non-academic units. Every attempt is made to assign Graduate Assistants to positions that are directly related to the student’s field of study or that provide the opportunity to develop transferable, professional skills.
Graduate Assistantships are assigned in the department or unit and confirmed by the Graduate School.
The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships has 2 Graduate Assistant positions open for . These positions may be renewable provided Graduate Assistants have met the position’s requirements, are recommended by their department to continue, and have maintained a 3.0 or higher GPA. The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will make every attempt to shape the work of each Graduate Assistant to provide a rich work experience relevant to field of study.
Fields of study that may be relevant include, but are not limited to, Accounting, Business, Communication Studies, Counseling, Higher Education, Psychology, and Public Affairs. Duties may include customer service support, proof reading materials, policy research, and other administrative tasks. Graduate Assistants may be assigned special projects as necessary by the supervisor and/or members of the leadership team.
- 8-month appointment
- 20 hours per week
- Stipend: $9,700 (4,850 per term)
- In-State Tuition
- Maintain academic good standing at all times (3.0).
- Be enrolled full-time, which is generally a minimum of 9 credits.
- Make satisfactory progress toward your degree as defined by your academic program and the Graduate School.
- Meet the requirements to be eligible for employment in the U.S.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must first attain full admission status to a UNCG graduate program. He or she must be dependable, detail-oriented, organized, and able to handle working with confidential information in a professional manner, able to adapt to different situations, and must have the ability to work well with others. The individual must also possess the ability to work well with computers and technology, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite and Windows XP and Excel.
