Position Overview
The School of Nursing, within the Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, is seeking an assistant/associate professor whose teaching and scholarly research agenda is focused on Health Equity/Health Disparities with acute care experience
. The primary purpose of this role is to provide student centered teaching and clinical instruction of undergraduate and graduate level courses. Faculty in this role will provide student advising, student mentoring and recruitment, curriculum development, engage in program assessment accreditation-related procedures. The ideal candidate will be expected to: (i) establish and sustain a strong externally-funded research program in their field of expertise;
(ii) produce an excellent record of scholarly publications; (iii) incorporate modern pedagogical skills in teaching nursing courses to undergraduate and graduate courses; (iv) supervise and support DNP student projects; and (vi ) provide service to the SON
, the college and university as well as to appropriate community and professional organizations.
This is a 9-month, tenure-track position.
The John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences (
HCHHS
) comprises six departments and the School of Nursing. The HCHHS offers the following undergraduate degree programs;
Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Services Management, Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, and Social Work, Sociology. At the graduate level,
HCHHS offers four graduate degree programs including the Masters in Physician Assistant Studies (PA program), Master of Social Work (
MSW
), Master of Science in Health Psychology and PhD in Social Work. Three additional doctoral programs being are being developed;
Doctor of Nurse practice (
DNP
), PhD in Applied Psychology, and PhD in Sociology. The HCHHS is also home to the Center of Excellence in Integrative Health Disparities and Equity Research (
CIHDER
), a hub for multidisciplinary research and community engagement efforts to alleviate health inequities. The HCHHS capitalizes on the synergistic relationships between these departments to develop advanced academic health science programming, enhance the training of healthcare practitioners, and conduct collaborative multidisciplinary research and scholastic activity.
The School of Nursing is dedicated to equipping individuals for the nursing profession, ensuring they possess the essential skills and knowledge for quality, safe, patient-centered care. Our comprehensive program offerings include traditional bachelor of science in nursing (
BSN
) tracks, Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (
ABSN
), and RN to BSN pathways, catering to a diverse range of educational needs. Our faculty, who are expert clinicians and educators, utilize cutting-edge technology at our Union Square campus to provide nursing education grounded in current theory, research, and evidence-based practice.

The School of Nursing faculty conduct clinical and translational research and contribute to scholarship that advances the overall health of our communities.
A minimum of a PhD in nursing or DNP with a significant research track record.
- Ability to establish and sustain a strong research enterprise, and have pedagogical skills to teach in areas relevant to health equity, health disparities (general practice)
- Prior teaching experience in baccalaureate and/or graduate nursing programs or credentials to meet the North Carolina Board of Nursing's educational requirement is required.
- Three years clinical experience related to the concepts and theories essential in providing nursing care.
General practice in acute care setting preferred. - Nurse Educator Certification.
- Skills with Blackboard LMS
, Banner INB

Must hold a current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in North Carolina or have eligibility to obtain North Carolina Registered Nurse License if candidate is an Advanced Practice Nurse, must hold national certification.
