Position Overview

The Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering (CAEE) Department and the College of Engineering at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCAT) invite applications for a full‑time Assistant Professor (9‑month) position. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and sustain a strong externally‑funded research program in Water Resources Engineering and produce an excellent record of scholarly publication; bring pedagogical skills to teach undergraduate and graduate courses;

supervise M.S. and Ph.D. theses; and provide service to the university and its units, to the state and regional community, as well as to the appropriate professional organizations. The primary responsibilities for this position include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, conducting research, student advising, student mentoring and recruitment, curriculum development, conducting scholarly activities, and other activities as expected. Other responsibilities include engaging in accreditation procedures, program assessment, and service to the department, College, and University as needed.

North Carolina A & T State University is a public land‑grant high research activity institution committed to dedicated teaching and learning, scholarly and creative research, and effective engagement and public service. The University enrolls over 15,200 students and is nationally recognized for its leadership and excellence in STEM education and research. The College of Engineering houses over 2,800 students and offers ABET‑accredited undergraduate and graduate programs.

The Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering Department provides academic preparation for B.S. degrees in Architectural Engineering and Civil Engineering, and an M.S. degree in Civil Engineering.

Minimum Requirements

Competitive candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline and demonstrate the ability to teach core undergraduate and graduate courses in water resources engineering, fostering strong student outcomes. Candidates should have a proven track record of academic excellence, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to inclusive excellence. Candidates should also be willing to engage in interdisciplinary approaches to address complex technical and societal challenges.

Preferred

Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

Experience in curriculum development, ABET accreditation process, and involvement with student organizations is preferred. Candidates are expected to exhibit a strong commitment to an open and collegial environment, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a team member. A professional engineering license is preferred.

Remote or Hybrid Work Arrangement

This position is on‑site. Employees are primarily in the office and/or have a critical job requirement that requires dedicated office space on‑site. This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A & T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2‑hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
