The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department is a dynamic team transforming the way needs are met and services are provided to our residents. We are currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the role of Summer Day Camp Counselor. The Camp Counselor is responsible for overall day-to-day group programming, discipline, direct supervision and management of children in the Summer Camp Program. Must be able to relate to school age children (ages 5-12 and 13-15), and conduct age appropriate activities.
Responsibilities- Acts as a role model to the children by exemplifying the City of Greensboro’s Core Values (Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Stewardship)
- Supervises a group of approximately 12 children between the ages of 5-12 and/or 13-15
- Facilitates both formal and informal play activities
- Plans, organizes, and implements a daily schedule of activities including crafts, sports, wellness, games, music, drama, field trips, etc.
- Provides emergency response as per training when necessary
- Collects data for daily reports and maintains records and reports
- Assists with set-up and breakdown of activities and cleaning of program area
- Maintains positive and appropriate relations with children, parents, staff, etc.
- Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, staff trainings, etc.
- Provides exceptional customer service
- Be enthusiastic and make the center a safe and fun place for the community
- Prior experience with middle and high school-age youth
- Prior computer experience using Word and Excel software programs
- Must be at least 18 years of age by June 1, 2024
- Must be willing to get in the pool with campers on swim days
- First Aid and CPR ("OR" ability to obtain before camp starts)
- Ability to work as scheduled from June through August
- Prior experience with recreation management software
- Bilingual
- Prior experience in a camp, mentor, or childcare setting
- Prior experience with program and/or camp planning/development
- Must be available to report to work in mid-May for orientation.
- Must be available for the entire camp season.
- May apply to participate in a First Aid / CPR class for staff prior to summer season to attain certifications
- Must attend all training prior to the start of camp.
This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
