Overview

The Grant Administrator is a professional position within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences ( CAHSS ). The position will report directly to the Dean. The Grants Administrator manages the lifecycle of grants, from finding funding and writing proposals to overseeing budget, compliance, reporting, and ensuring project goals align with funder requirements. It acts as a liaison for financial awards supporting research, programs, or operations, requiring strong organizational, financial, and communication skills.

The Grants Administrator oversees grant-related activities within the College to ensure acquisition and effective utilization of grant funds in support of the College’s strategic objectives. It includes monitoring budgets, adjusting financial plans as needed, and ensuring timely submission of financial and progress reports. A critical aspect involves adherence to grant compliance requirements by staying abreast of grantor policies, implementing internal controls, and managing required reporting and documentation with precision and timeliness.

This role bridges CAHSS needs and external funding to support fiscal health, programmatic success, and long-term sustainability and growth.

Organizational Context
The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, History and Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. CAHSS reports to the Office of the Provost/Division of Academic Affairs and enrolls more than 2,000 students with more than 160 full-time faculty members. NC A&T is an 1890 land‑grant, doctoral higher research institution and one of 17 constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina System.

Responsibilities
  • Support the lifecycle of grants from identification of funding opportunities to proposal development, submission, awarded administration, and closeout.
  • Manage budgets, monitor expenditures, adjust financial plans, and ensure timely financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with grantor policies, internal controls, and required documentation.
  • Coordinate with departments and external sponsors to align project goals with funder requirements.
  • Serve as a liaison for financial awards supporting research, programs, or operations.
  • Prepare and submit progress and financial reports in a timely manner.
  • Provide accurate and timely information to ensure fiscal health and programmatic success of grant-funded initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related area; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of grant administration experience.
  • Skills in management, communication, research, writing, budgeting, leadership, attention to detail, and operations.
Preferred Skills and Education
  • Working knowledge of electronic research administration systems and financial systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer software and research administration systems.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and university grant programs and submission processes.
  • Master’s degree in related field and 5+ years of grant administration experience.
  • Financial management, accounting, project management, auditing, budget development, data collection/analysis, and advanced technology knowledge.
