Join our Sales & Estimating Team at FDS, a UK leader in the design, installation, and maintenance of smoke ventilation systems. We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Estimator to contribute to our growing portfolio of projects. In this pivotal role, you will leverage your expertise to provide accurate cost estimates, analyze project requirements, and collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure project success.
Salary: £45,000 + Personal Performance Based Commission
Responsibilities- Analyse tender enquiry drawings, fire strategy and specifications to determine scope of work.
- Quantify materials and labour needed for projects based upon the tender information.
- Prepare and submit quotations.
- Update quotations throughout the tender process as information or addendums are issued.
- Identify project risks; technically and commercially.
- Review contracts to ensure content is consistent with tender information and that scope of work is as quoted.
- Prepare schedules of rates and costs for applications for payment.
- Conduct design checks to ensure designs meet agreed scope of works.
- Finalise budgets used for live projects.
- Liaise with team members at different stages of a project to ensure costs/budgets are met.
- Establish and maintain relationships with clients.
- Via CRM, maintain comprehensive records of estimates for client follow‑ups and reporting.
- Hand over projects to design and project management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to integrate well into a team as well as work independently.
- Ability to collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotes and pricing information.
- Ability to work closely with surveyors, architects and engineers to understand project requirements.
- Ability to negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Ability to negotiate with clients.
- Meticulous in analysing tender information to ensure all aspects of a project are considered within costs and written quotations.
- Technical knowledge in smoke ventilation; familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Ability to identify alternative methods or materials to reduce costs while maintaining quality, standards and functionality.
- Proficient IT skills (particularly Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Exceptional organisational skills.
- Must be able to plan and prioritise workload effectively.
- Excellent client service focus.
- GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above).
- Experienced estimator.
- Familiarity with estimating software.
- Established client relationships.
- Experience in smoke ventilation or fire alarm systems.
- Experience with in the commercial sector – preferred but not essential.
