Overview

Baystate Health, western Massachusetts’ only academic center and tertiary care provider, is seeking a Counselor to join our Mental Health Unit team in Greenfield, MA
. Baystate Franklin Medical Center (BFMC) is an 89-bed community hospital offering a wide range of services including emergency, surgery, cancer, heart and vascular, obstetrics, and more.

• Location:
  
  Baystate Franklin Medical Center with onsite parking, Greenfield, MA
• Schedule:
  
  16 hours a week
• Second shift (3P-11:30P)
• Every other weekend and holiday
• Differential pay for second shift, weekend, and holiday

• Participates in a Multidisciplinary Team approach to patient care. Familiar with admission and progress notes of team members; collaborates with the team in evaluating patients, planning therapy, and developing treatment goals. Reports observations of patients’ status and provides input in the preparation and updating of treatment plans. Assists team members in providing care and follows through with team decisions. Welcomes new staff and assists in orienting them to the department.
• Provides a safe environment. Conducts daily safety checks, intervenes during crises, and assists with patient escorts. Maintains safety by monitoring groups, time-aways, and restraints/seclusions per policy. Reports hazards promptly and adheres to behavior management principles including Collaborative Problem Solving techniques.
• Documents patient mental status, social behavior, progress toward goals, and necessary information in the EMR; completes monitoring and rounds sheets; documents restraints/seclusions per policy.
• Provides a therapeutic milieu. Assesses patient mental status and progress toward goals; counsels patients with empathy and respect; refers physical problems to the RN; collaborates with the team to meet ADL needs; identifies knowledge deficits and delivers teaching; assists with 1:1 intervention and group therapy; develops psycho-educational groups and is willing to fill in as needed; maintains professional boundaries.
• Demonstrates accountability for personal and professional growth. Attends mandatory in-services and collaborates with supervisors to identify professional goals and program needs. Supports the philosophy and policies of the program.

• High School Diploma
• Minimum 1 year behavioral health experience

• Bachelor's Degree
• Minimum 2 years behavioral health experience
• If no Bachelor's Degree, 6 years of behavioral health experience will be considered

• Bachelor's Degree
• Minimum 4 years behavioral health experience
• If no Bachelor's Degree, 8 years of behavioral health experience will be considered

Education: Bachelor of Social Work:
Psychology (Required)

Certifications: Basic Life Support – American Heart Association;
Crisis Prevention Institute
