Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of routine clerical, administrative, and technical work in receiving and dispatching routine and emergency information, keeping official records and assisting in the administration of dispatch center SOPs.
- Dispatch police and other response vehicles for emergency and non-emergency responses; broadcast nature, location, and time of incident; contact all required personnel and local agencies as needed.
- Coordinate reserve units by contacting personnel designated for on‑call and relaying information.
- Use the department’s computer‑aided dispatch (CAD) system to maintain logs on radio, telephone, and computer communications, location of personnel and equipment, and keep emergency personnel informed of incoming information.
- Maintain accountability of all officers at all times for their safety and that of the public.
- Notify supervisory personnel of any emergency situation or condition that would require reassigning additional officers.
- Disseminate motor‑vehicle, driver‑license, and criminal‑record information, and monitor TTY forwarding to officers as necessary.
- Monitor telephone lines (including 911) and multiple radio channels, answering calls and gathering necessary information to formulate appropriate police or fire response.
- Verify and update Criminal Information Bureau (CIB) files and ensure warrants/commitments remain valid.
- Input data to standard office and department forms, compile and tabulate reports, and maintain dispatch documents and records.
- Assist citizens who come to the station with complaints, tickets, officer interactions, and open‑records requests, asking perceptive questions and treating them with professionalism and courtesy.
- Process monies for fines, sale of licenses and permits, balance the cash register, and forward deposits to the village treasurer.
- Monitor security cameras, alarm systems, and garage doors for building security.
- Assist in training new hires and maintain the communications bureau work area and equipment in clean and working condition.
- Monitor weather warning systems and 911 phone system.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least 18 years old.
- Ability to report to work on time.
- Ability to be available for work.
- Maintain confidentiality of information.
- Adaptability to changes in the organization.
- Read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy & procedure manuals.
- Write routine correspondence and reports.
- Basic arithmetic with American currency.
- Answer multiple incoming emergency and non‑emergency calls via telephone or radio and formulate appropriate police/fire response.
- Knowledge of Federal Communications regulations, state laws, village ordinances, and laws/rules pertinent to law enforcement.
- Working knowledge of computers and basic programs such as Windows, Word, and Excel.
- Function in a sustained stressful environment while maintaining effective relationships with staff and the public.
- Monitor several conversations simultaneously, retain key information, research and obtain pertinent information.
- Perform dispatching/clerical work with speed and accuracy, applying organizational policies and laws with independent judgment.
- Use computerized telephone system and have proficient data‑entry and typing skills.

The Village’s plan is subject to change each calendar year. Employees enroll the first day of the month following their date of employment. Employees contribute 12% toward the monthly premium. The Village offers a $3,000 annual opt‑out payment if the employee does not enroll because of other coverage.
Dental Insurance
:
Two plan options – Traditional and Preventative – subject to change each calendar year. Employees enroll the first day of the month following their date of employment.
Vision Insurance
:
Employees automatically enrolled if they opt for health insurance. Enrollment effective the first of the month after 30 days of service.
FSA
:
Voluntary enrollment in a flexible spending account for health and dependent care costs.
Pension
:
Wisconsin Retirement Fund—equal contribution from employee and employer (percentage set annually; 2025 employer 6.95% and employee 6.95%).
Deferred Compensation
:
Optional enrollment in a deferred compensation plan.
Life Insurance
:
Basic life insurance equal to annual salary, paid by the Village via the Wisconsin Retirement System, effective after 30 days of service.

5‑7 years: 2 weeks 2 days
8‑14 years: 3 weeks
15‑19 years: 4 weeks
20 years: 4 weeks 1 day
21 years: 4 weeks 2 days

23 years: 4 weeks 4 days
24 years and above: 5 weeks
1 day per month (accumulated to a maximum of 165 days).
