Overview

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George's County, Parks and Recreation, Natural Historical Resources Division has an opening for a Nature Facility Park Rentals and Maintenance Worker at Bladensburg Waterfront Park. The Nature Facility Park Rentals and Maintenance Worker will primarily work with our native plant landscaping, garden boxes, and greenhouse operations. The employee will focus on planting, weeding, watering, monitoring, preparing beds and soil, maintaining the vitality of greenhouse plants and conditions, and otherwise benefiting and beautifying the land and gardens at the park. On occasion, the employee will assist park naturalists in plant-based programming and activities.

The employee may also assist park staff with rental equipment to customers (e.g., kayaks, canoes, personal flotation devices, paddles, bicycles, and more), dock work, maintenance of rental boats and bikes, general park maintenance and custodial duties, trash and debris pickup, and other related tasks. Rarely, additional duties may include work with the public, staff, and volunteers, and staffing special events including set-up and tear down of events and programs.

Responsibilities
  • Able to lift around 50 pounds and complete manual labor outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Provide customer service as part of daily activities.
  • Apply native plant, greenhouse, and gardening skills to projects.
  • Operate with limited supervision, take initiative, and follow through on tasks.
  • Maintain clear communication with supervisor and team.
  • Assist with rental equipment and related dock work as needed.
  • Support general park maintenance, custodial duties, trash and debris pickup, and other related tasks.
  • May assist with public, staff, and volunteers and staff special events, including set-up and tear down.
Qualifications
  • Ability to lift around 50 pounds and perform manual labor outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Native plant, greenhouse, and gardening skills are highly desired.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, take initiative, and follow through on tasks.
  • Good communication skills with supervisor and team.
  • Driver's license preferred but not required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
Work Conditions

This job requires occasional weekend, evening shifts, and holidays. Work will be primarily outdoors in various weather conditions. Manual labor and lifting are required. The role requires multitasking and can involve busy situations.

Supplemental Information
  • This is a year-round seasonal/intermittent position that requires roughly 24-32 hours per week.
  • Schedule can be flexible based on availability and skill set.
  • This position does not provide benefits.
  • A criminal background investigation will be completed prior to hire.
