General Summary of Position

The Wound Care Manager is responsible for leading clinical training, education, and support for both newly hired and experienced clinicians, with a focus on wound, ostomy, and incontinence care across the entire organization. This role involves providing clinical support, training guidance to field staff, and ensuring high-quality decision-making and care delivery. The Wound Care Manager may perform patient care and case management duties as needed in the field, collaborating closely with the Professional Development Specialists and Clinical Operations Managers.

Additional responsibilities include supporting strategic goals, ensuring quality care, overseeing clinical workflows, coordinating staff, facilitating case conferences, and leading the development and oversight of a wound care program to promote best practices and optimal outcomes for patients.

In partnership with education, quality, and operations, the Wound Care Manager develops, and updates individualized clinical orientation programs for new hires, facilitates the transition from orientation, and serves as a classroom and field trainer to support best practices. The Wound Care Manager plays an active role in quality assurance (QA), offering training based on QA findings, conducting joint visits, chart audits, and participating in mock surveys.

This role supports operations and quality in complaint and occurrence resolution. The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable and collaborative clinical resource that fosters supportive and skillful clinical teams across the entire organization.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contributes to the achievement of established goals and objectives established from Med Star management team. Adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Completes annual Code of Conduct, Compliance and other mandatory training. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Demonstrates expertise related to wound assessment accuracy, documentation, including OASIS assessment accuracy related to wounds. Supports optimal wound outcomes and PDGM visit frequencye management and wound product use for effective cost utilization of visits and wound care products.
  • Responsible for specific portions of administrative workflow related to case conferencing and coordination, quality care, and matters related to wound care delivery.
  • Collaborates with the Professional Development Specialists and Clinical Operations Manager to support an individualized clinical orientation program for new staff. Updates the program as needed to meet learning needs.
  • Serves as field educator in the discipline, providing feedback and suggestions to implement best practices and standardize procedures. Supports clinicians by providing input in product selection and wound care plan implementation for wound patients.
  • Performs telehealth and observation (joint) visits on wound patients to ensure quality patient care delivery and excellence in patient experience.
  • Acts as field mentor to clinical staff and provides Clinical Operations Manager and/or Professional Development Specialist with input regarding team members' work performance. Recommends and provides additional education based on clinical skill needs or problems identified through the QA process or at the request of the staff member or Clinical Operations Manager and/or RN clinical training specialist.
  • Conducts chart reviews for wound patients to assure that the patient documentation is accurate and that proper utilization and clinical needs are being achieved.
  • Supports QAPI initiatives related to wound care issues.
  • Leads in formulary recommendations and oversight including standardization of wound products and oversight of supply management and formulary adherence for best practice outcomes, effective resource management, and most efficient supply cost management.
