The successful candidate will support Fibertek’s NASA customer at Goddard Space Flight Center with mechanical design and fabrication activities and perform applicable maintenance, safety, property and accounting requirements.
- Work directly with scientists, engineers, and technicians in design, fabrication, integration, modification, repair, and test of parts for mechanical flight and non-flight hardware. Use expertise to improve the quality and outcome of their projects.
- Design and fabricate parts and fixtures to meet aerospace engineering needs.
- Machine and fabricate to specifications, and verifies conformance of parts. Perform machine setups to obtain close tolerances, fitting and alignment of machined parts.
- Provide drawings, sketches, and specifications in completing various machining operations.
- Develop jigs, fixtures and other specialized non-production devices.
- Maintain equipment and coordinate service calls when needed.
- Identify and order tooling, materials, etc.
- Serve customers with quick reaction assistance and repairs when needed.
- Maintain clean work areas and equipment.
- Follow lab, equipment, Fibertek and NASA safety requirements and reporting.
- Complete all required training in a timely manner.
- Provide timely reporting including weekly/monthly timekeeping/project charge reports to Fibertek and NASA.
- 10 years’ experience aerospace machining
- 10 years’ experience CNC machining and CAM software programming
- HAAS CNC Machining Center programming, setup and operation experience
- Experience with Hardinge Lathe, Bridgeport Manual Mill, 3-D printers
- Ability to lift and maneuver materials, parts, tooling and supplies in and around work space and equipment.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work self-sufficiently
