Under the general supervision of leadership, the Wellness Center Associate is responsible for ensuring a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment within the fitness center. This role monitors member activity provides guidance on proper equipment use and upholds safety and cleanliness standards. This position plays a key role in fostering member engagement, supporting healthy lifestyles, and ensuring exceptional experience for all members and guests.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
- Monitor the fitness center floor by actively observing member activity and equipment use, intervening when necessary to correct unsafe behaviors or misuse, and reinforcing YMCA policies and etiquette — ensuring a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members and guests.
- Provide high-quality member assistance by demonstrating proper equipment operation, answering questions, and offering basic exercise guidance — enhancing member confidence, safety, and satisfaction with their fitness experience.
- Maintain facility cleanliness and equipment functionality by routinely cleaning and sanitizing all fitness areas, organizing weights and accessories, and inspecting machines for proper operation — resulting in a clean, professional, and well-maintained environment that promotes member trust and health.
- Respond promptly to emergencies by following YMCA safety protocols, administering first aid or CPR if certified, and communicating effectively with leadership — ensuring timely and effective care for members and the prevention of further injury or risk.
- Foster positive member relationships by greeting members by name, initiating friendly conversations, and creating a welcoming atmosphere — building a sense of belonging and strengthening member retention.
- Support YMCA programs and initiatives by sharing information about upcoming classes, events, and wellness opportunities — increasing member engagement and participation in the Y community.
- An enthusiastic and engaging personality with a willingness to learn is essential.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to demonstrate basic exercises and safe movement techniques.
- Must be able to perform CPR and/or other first responder duties as trained.

- Adaptability: Adjusts communication style, priorities, and approach to meet member needs and respond to dynamic fitness center conditions.
- Communication: Listens actively and conveys information clearly and respectfully to members and staff to ensure understanding and cooperation.
- Time Management: Balances multiple tasks such as cleaning, member interaction, and safety monitoring to ensure timely and efficient completion of duties.
- Relationship Building: Creates genuine, supportive relationships with participants and colleagues to foster belonging and connection to the YMCA community.
- Conflict Resolution: Addresses member concerns calmly and respectfully, seeking constructive solutions that uphold YMCA values and member satisfaction.
- Must be able to stand and move on feet for up to 8 hours per shift.
- Lift or move up to 80lbs. regularly.
- May require travel between YMCA centers or off-site locations.
