As a Field Service Technician / Industrial Mechanic, you will provide exceptional customer service by working on material handling equipment either at customer locations or within our branch shop. The role requires mechanical repairs to keep equipment operating at full performance, delivering efficient equipment performance to our customers. Recent graduates from technical schools with education in automotive and/or diesel repair are strongly encouraged to apply.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Repair, diagnose, inspect, and maintain all material handling equipment for assigned customer work orders.
- Accept repair orders as assigned by the Service Writer.
- Communicate with customers about diagnosed repairs, suggested solutions, and obtain approvals.
- Read work orders, observe the equipment in operation, and determine or diagnose malfunctions or problems.
- Offer solutions to meet customer specifications.
- Submit work orders in a timely manner and provide estimates when appropriate.
- Repair, service, recondition, or assemble equipment as approved by the customer or Service Manager.
- Obtain necessary parts through cooperation with the Parts department.
- Perform mechanical repairs after a complete inspection and analysis.
- Record complete repair descriptions on work orders, including correct model and serial number, and record hour meter readings.
- Obtain customer signature and follow up on repair needs or completed work.
- Examine protective guards, loose bolts, specified safety devices, and make necessary adjustments.
- Lubricate moving parts and verify conformance to specifications by driving the repaired equipment.
- Maintain a professional image, cleanliness of the van (externally and internally), and of the assigned work area at the customer site.
- Operate shop equipment and tools and notify the Service Manager or Supervisor of safety issues or accidents immediately.
- Perform quality work quickly and professionally.
- Promote marketing efforts to drive parts, service, equipment, and rental sales.
- Complete service forms and submit them directly to the Service department daily via work tablet.
- Adapt and act out the company’s core value – Safety Always – at all times and in all places.
- Accept new duties and responsibilities as assigned by the direct manager.
Skills and Abilities
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record; CDL may be required.
- Experience in forklift repair is desired; intermediate maintenance experience is required.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as the safety manual, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Effective verbal communication skills with customers or employees.
- Ability to work under little or no supervision.
- Must be able to provide own tools immediately; an annual tool incentive is given.
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
- Three or more years of mechanic experience and/or education related to the position.
- Basic knowledge of computer and internet software.
