Position requires repair and maintenance of heavy construction and agricultural equipment, electric, propane, CNG, diesel lift trucks and customer equipment. Qualified applicants will have a mechanical background and experience in hydraulic, electrical, and diesel repair and maintenance. Recent graduates from technical schools with education in automotive and/or diesel repair are strongly encouraged to apply.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Repair, diagnose, inspect, and maintain all material handling, construction, and agricultural equipment for customer work orders assigned to you.
- Accept repair orders as assigned by Service Writer.
- Primarily service construction and agricultural equipment.
- Communicate with customer(s) on diagnosed repairs suggested or required and obtain customer approvals.
- Read work orders, observe and listen to truck in operation to determine/diagnose malfunction or problems.
- Offer solutions to meet customer specifications.
- Provide estimates when appropriate.
- Repair, service, recondition or assemble equipment as approved by the customer/Service Manager.
- Obtain necessary parts by working cooperatively with Parts department staff.
- Make mechanical repairs to equipment after a complete inspection and analysis of breakdown has been completed.
- Record a complete repair description on work order, including correct model and serial number of equipment and record hour meter reading.
- Obtain signature from customer and communicate with them on repair needs or work that was completed.
- Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on truck and make adjustments.
- Lubricate moving parts and drive repaired truck to verify conformance to specifications.
- Always maintain a professional image of self, cleanliness of van (externally and internally), and of assigned work area at customer site.
- Maintain and operate shop equipment and tools.
- Notify Service Manager or Supervisor of safety issues and/or accidents immediately.
- Perform quality work as quickly and professionally as possible.
- Promote marketing efforts to drive parts, service, equipment and rental sales.
- Complete service forms and submit directly to Service department daily via work tablet.
- Adapt and act out the company’s core value – Safety Always – at all times, in all places.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record; CDL may be required.
- Experience in forklift repair is desired; intermediate maintenance experience is required.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety manual, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of an organization.
- Ability to work under little or no supervision.
- Must provide own tools for the job immediately; annual tool incentive is given.
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
- 3+ years of mechanic experience and/or education relating to the position.
- Basic knowledge of computer and internet software.
