Position Overview
The Electrical & Instrumentation Technician will support core operations through maintenance, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement of assets. The technician will build capability in the maintenance department and operations with respect to technical aspects of assets, ensuring efficient and effective execution of Electrical & Instrumentation/Controls maintenance and project related activities across a broad range of fixed plant equipment.
Responsibilities- Install, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on electrical control systems, equipment, and components including transformers, switch gear, bus bars, high and low voltage motors, and panel wiring.
- Installs, troubleshoots, and performs preventive or scheduled maintenance for all electrical and control systems.
- Provide technical design input and equipment specification recommendations for pump houses, lift stations, and treatment plant system modifications.
- Document work completed, work in progress, and annual permit requirements on computerized maintenance history records.
- Prepare and modify as‑built drawings for new and existing electrical systems and components.
- Provide maintenance support to Water Division and Wastewater Division staff for operation and maintenance of district’s water and wastewater treatment plants and distribution facilities.
- Perform electrical work including repairs to lighting fixtures, install new switches and outlets, run new circuits and control wiring, and provide estimates.
- Perform programmable logic controller (PLC) programming.
- Maintain strong knowledge of preventive maintenance processes and systems; possess intermediate PLC programming abilities.
- Work successfully within a team environment and support core operations through assistance in maintenance.
- Understand OHSA standards within the workplace.
- Apply critical thinking and troubleshooting using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and determine causes of operating errors.
- Trade qualified electrician with instrumentation qualifications essential, or a qualified electrician less than 12 months away from obtaining instrumentation qualifications.
- Experience performing tasks described in responsibilities.
