Position: Park Maintenance (LTE) - Seasonal April-October or Summer June-August Available!

Overview

Park Maintenance (LTE) positions are introductory positions that run between April and October and handle the most basic routine upkeep of our county parks properties. With 18 parks encompassing 3,100+ acres in Brown County, these positions provide some of the most admired and measurable work of our department as they handle the smaller tasks that amount to the many reasons people visit our parks and are drawn to them.

This is a great starting position for those looking for an outdoor, summer job with opportunities for future advancements.

Locations of Park Maintenance (LTE) positions include the following:

  • Bay Shore County Park (also covers Eagles Nest & Wequiock Falls)
  • Brown County Fairgrounds (also covers Fonferek’s Glen, Lily Lake, Neshota, St. Francis, State Trails & Way-Morr)
  • Pamperin Park (also covers the Brown County Dog Park)
  • Reforestation Camp

The Department is looking to hire multiple individuals for the above County Parks to work 40 hours per week as a Seasonal, April through October, and Summer, late May through August. Rotating weekends and evenings will be required as well as holidays. Differential Pay will apply for any shifts worked between 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM, and an added $.50 per hour for weekend work between 12:01 AM Saturday and 11:59 PM Sunday (though very few shifts will occur outside of sunrise to sunset.)

On-the-job training is provided, and we will supply two uniform shirts, a windbreaker, and a hat as uniforms must be worn. Lunch is one-half hour and is unpaid, those working a four-hour shift receive one paid break, while those working an eight-hour shift receive two paid breaks. Each shift, staff reviews the day’s tasks with either the Assistant Ranger/Ranger/Field Manager and dispatches by foot, via a UTV, or County pick-up truck to begin the day’s work.

Responsibilities
  • Performs semi-skilled routine maintenance including, but not limited to park shelters, campgrounds, boat landings, recreational trails, parks amenities, etc.
  • Performs park’s maintenance such as use of basic hand tools, utility carts, trucks with trailers, cleaning, trail repairs, equipment operation, painting/staining, etc.
  • Performs general parks aesthetics including, but not limited to use of a zero-turn lawn (training provided as needed), trimming trees, pulling weeds, removing brush, maintaining shrubbery and flower beds throughout the parks, picking up litter (we are a carry-in/carry-out parks system meaning that there are no garbage cans placed throughout the parks that need to be pulled), raking, spreading woodchips, cleaning fire pits, etc.
  • Greets shelter renters, reviews shelter rules, and assists renters as needed to assure the success of their rental.
  • Collects and deposits revenues as necessary from iron rangers (site-specific as these are found at certain park Trailheads for fee-based uses).
  • Assists in construction projects such as the installation and or repairs of park signage, fencing, gates, etc. as directed.
