Material Handler, Forklift Operator
This position is for a 12-hour Material Hander - working 7 am to 7 pm on a 2/2/3 schedule.
Position PurposeMaterial Handler (Levels 1 through
4):
Performs the physical or administrative tasks involved in the moving of manufacturing goods from one location to the next. The production materials may be raw materials or purchased goods. Those goods must be moved to and from various production locations within and outside the department. The Material Handler will also get supplies and equipment, unpacks and checks goods received, maintains records of received goods and rejects unsatisfactory items.
Lifts heavy items and may operate a forklift. Prepares and maintains records of merchandise shipped. May post weights and numbers of product in a production bin or wire cage. Will examine stocks and distribute materials in inventory and on manufacturing lines. May prepare kit packages for assembly production.
Material Handler (Levels 1 through
4):
Performs the physical or administrative tasks involved in moving both purchased parts and work in process (WIP) parts to various manufacturing locations within the department. May need to retrieve other parts and supplies outside the department. Lifts heavy items and may operate a forklift and/or pallet jack to move supplies and materials. Although the primary duties are identified, this Job Description is not meant to be all inclusive of all the duties and responsibilities of a Material Handler.
- Locate material and equipment needed for each job.
- Remove material and equipment from completed jobs.
- Issue and return material as instructed.
- Supply material to all jobs as assigned.
- May unload incoming material and store it in proper place, for consumption within the department.
- Obtain cycle counts.
- Practice safe working habits.
- Periodically check for unsafe conditions and correct as needed.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Basic computer skills preferred, but will train.
- Clean and organize work area.
- Keep all equipment in good repair.
- Other work as assigned.
- Work with other departments as needed.
- Must have basic computer skills that includes email.
- Must have a valid forklift operator's license, or the ability to obtain a license.
- Utility knife.
