Job Summary
CNC Vertical Mill operators use computer-controlled machines to fabricate parts from metal or plastic. Produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards for custom parts for ACMF customers.
Summary Of Essential Job Functions- Program Vertical Mill by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches
- Calculate requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs
- Set up Vertical Mill by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads
- Load feed mechanism by lifting stock into position
- Verify settings by measuring positions, first‑run part, and sample work pieces; perform test operations to ensure the product is made to specifications
- Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
- Run the machine and monitor it for problems
- Make adjustments to the operating speed based on vibrations and sounds that may indicate a malfunction
- Inspect any material from waterjet, laser, saw, and/or weldments
- Provide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the given task
- Perform all dimensional inspections
- Operate multiple machines
- Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs
- Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor
- Perform prescribed maintenance as required; clean and maintain equipment
- Operate and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely
