Job Overview
Under general direction, performs work of moderate difficulty in the custodial care, cleaning, and routine maintenance of the 4K School building and attached Banquet Hall facilities. Work includes maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, appearance, and safety of all interior spaces, as well as periodic cleaning of designated exterior areas. The position works closely with the sanctuary’s Ranger I and the Banquet & Event Coordinator to plan cleaning schedules based on school hours, event times, and rental frequency.
Responsible for maintaining inventory for assigned facilities and communicating supply needs.
This position averages approximately 20 hours per week and is a year round position without benefits. Hours vary depending on the school year, event schedule, and rental turnover needs. Weekday work is primary; however,
some weekend hours are required during high-use periods or back-to-back rentals.
- Performs custodial care and cleaning of all interior areas of the 4K School and Banquet Hall including classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, gathering areas, meeting rooms, and storage areas.
- Performs custodial care and cleaning of all interior areas of the 4K School and Banquet Hall including event and banquet spaces, kitchens, staging areas, service corridors, and utility rooms.
- Performs custodial care and cleaning of all interior areas of the 4K School and Banquet Hall including floors, carpets, walls, windows, doors, fixtures, counters, furniture, and high-touch surfaces.
- Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes, and polishes floors; vacuums and shampoos carpets as needed.
- Washes interior windows, walls, woodwork, partitions, restroom fixtures, tables, and chairs.
- Empties and replaces refuse and recycling containers; assists with trash removal as needed.
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms including toilets, urinals, sinks, dispensers, and partitions.
- Operates custodial equipment including buffers, vacuums, carpet cleaners, sweepers, and related tools.
- Secures buildings by locking/unlocking doors during scheduled shifts.
- Cleans 4K School facilities after 4:00 p.m., including classrooms, learning areas, restrooms, shared spaces, and entryways.
- Performs full cleaning of Banquet Hall facilities after rentals or events once the building is emptied.
- Coordinates closely with the Banquet & Event Coordinator to schedule cleaning windows based on event times, setup/tear-down logistics, and frequency of rentals.
- Ensures event-related areas are reset to standard condition including floors, restrooms, lobbies, entrances, and service areas.
- Responds to varying workload needs based on back-to-back rentals or multi-day events.
- Cleans exterior windows, entryway glass, and door surfaces.
- Sweeps porches, decks, walkways, and exterior gathering areas associated with the School and Banquet Hall.
- Assists with power washing of decks, patios, exterior walls, or walkways as directed.
- Performs minor exterior cleaning related to event cleanup or guest traffic flow.
- Ability to work the required hours of the position, including occasional weekends and evenings based on facility use.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of custodial or facility cleaning experience preferred, ideally in education, hospitality, or municipal buildings.
- Experience operating custodial equipment such as buffers, sweepers, vacuums, carpet machines, and related tools preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
- A combination of equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.
- Good knowledge of cleaning methods, custodial procedures, sanitation practices, and safe equipment operation.
- Knowledge of proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals and related safety precautions.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and complete simple reports as required.
- Ability to coordinate schedules with multiple staff members and adapt to changing event demands.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, tenants, event staff, and the public.
- Ability to work independently, efficiently, and with attention to detail.
- Occasional climbing, crawling, and working on ladders or elevated surfaces.
- Operation of custodial or cleaning equipment requiring physical coordination.
- Ability to work in varied environmental conditions including indoor/outdoor temperatures and weather when performing exterior cleaning.
