Park Ranger​/Airport Mechanic

This position is split between Brown County Parks and Austin Straubel International Airport. The Park Ranger will work for the Parks between April and October and for the Airport between November and March. The Park Ranger will oversee daily operations, customer service, enforcement of rules, and maintenance of the assigned parks. The role requires skilled maintenance and operation of parks, natural resource management, rule enforcement, and grounds care.

The candidate must possess strong communication skills, the ability to safely operate equipment, and the ability to perform building and equipment maintenance, as well as provide exceptional customer service.

Essential Duties:

• Recommend and implement solutions to provide safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing facilities.
• Provide exemplary customer service and support a positive environment for internal and external relations.
• Resolve conflicts and enforce violations per BC Code; issue verbal and written warnings and/or citations to visitors.
• Possess exceptional communication skills when working with co‑workers and customers.
• Implement Department and County goals, objectives, and policies, maintaining performance standards.
• Ensure smooth day‑to‑day maintenance, operations, and supervise/direct seasonal staff in assigned areas.
• Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot and repair motorized equipment, machinery, buildings/HVAC systems, and other facilities.
• Operate trucks, tractors, mowers, chainsaws, skid steers, snow grooming equipment, firefighting equipment, and related equipment.
• Participate in snow removal operations at the airport, responding on a 24‑hour basis to the needs of the airport.
• Perform pavement repair and maintenance, prepare monthly and special reports as required.
• Manage and work with organized volunteer groups.
• All other duties as assigned.

• Quick, independent learner, able to adapt to new tasks.
• Knowledge of principles, techniques, and practices related to public recreation and park maintenance.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Knowledge of basic mechanical operations, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical operations (construction).
• Knowledge of equipment used in park operations.
• Ability to perform park inspections, ensuring compliance with established standards, regulations, and laws.
• Must have exceptionally strong customer service and communication skills.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the workplace.
• Knowledge of chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, and cleaning products.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, other departments, and the general public.
• Ability to learn aviation radio procedures, FAA regulations and TSA procedures and regulations.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
