This role assumes responsibility for the psychiatric care and treatment of clients in the outpatient setting. It is a weekday, Monday‑through‑Friday outpatient clinic position, providing services to most clients between 8 am and 5 pm. As the mental health professional, you will diagnose and treat psychiatric disorders, usually through medication, and study mood, personality, and behavioral disorders to determine a diagnosis, prescribe medication, and monitor its effects.
EssentialDuties
- Use a variety of methods to evaluate a patient, mostly by interviewing patients, their family or other persons.
- Develop a treatment plan according to the patient’s needs and the extent of emotional, social, cognitive, developmental, or behavioral disorder.
- Direct, supervise, and provide consultation to clinic professional staff in the implementation of treatment plans and care of clients under your care.
- Treat a patient using psychotherapeutic methods and medication, monitoring medication effects and adjusting treatment as necessary.
- Consult with the patient’s Primary Care Physician, nurses or other health‑care providers when needed.
- Provide psychiatric consultation, evaluation, and treatment as required.
- Provide crisis intervention when needed.
- Write and maintain patient and clinical records, including treatment type and medication administered.
- Keep up to date with professional knowledge by reading publications, attending educational conferences, or maintaining professional networks.
- Follow ethical and legal policies, procedures, and standards.
- Discharge clients and/or assist in the closing of cases in a timely manner.
- Assist the Clinical Director in developing, evaluating, and implementing clinical programs.
- Participate in clinic and community treatment center meetings and duties as required.
- Assume overall responsibility for the care rendered to clients under your care.
- Maintain responsibility for safe client care through appropriate planning, implementation, and evaluation procedures.
- Maintain documentation as required and complete it in a timely manner according to department policy and regulatory requirement.
