Job Summary:The Linux Systems & Automation Engineering Intern will assist with building, configuring, and automating enterprise Linux infrastructure. The intern will work alongside senior engineers on system provisioning, configuration management, monitoring, and operational tooling. This role is intended for candidates with strong technical fundamentals who want hands‑on experience with production systems and automation workflows. It is also intended as a pipeline for future full‑time Systems Engineering or Dev Ops roles.
High‑performing interns may be considered for extended internships or full‑time offers.
- Assist with Linux server provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management.
- Participate in OS hardening, patching, and baseline configuration development.
- Help maintain system documentation, runbooks, and deployment standards.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts (Python, Bash).
- Contribute to configuration management workflows (Ansible, cloud-init, Terraform, etc.).
- Build repeatable deployment templates for bare metal and virtual systems.
- Assist with monitoring and telemetry systems (Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, Open Search).
- Analyze logs and metrics to support troubleshooting and reliability improvements.
- Participate in incident reviews and root‑cause analysis exercises.
- Write internal tools and utilities to improve engineering workflows.
- Use Git for version control and contribute via pull requests and code reviews.
- Participate in design discussions and technical reviews with senior engineers.
- Enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- Strong understanding of Linux fundamentals (file system, permissions, processes, networking).
- Experience with scripting or programming (Python, Bash, Ruby, or similar).
- Familiarity with Git and basic software development workflows.
- Strong written documentation and communication skills.
- Experience with containers (Docker) or orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with configuration management tools.
- Exposure to virtualization (VMware, KVM).
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) or on‑prem automation frameworks.
- Personal homelab, open‑source contributions, or Git Hub portfolio.
