Electrical Design Engineer - Mechanical

The Electrical Design Engineer is a senior-level technical leader responsible for driving the evaluation, design, and estimating of commercial and industrial electrical systems within a dynamic MEP environment. This role plays a critical part in expanding electrical design/build capabilities by independently assessing existing building systems, developing code-compliant solutions, and delivering high-confidence conceptual designs that support business growth. Serving as a trusted advisor to clients and an internal technical resource, the Electrical Design Engineer partners closely with project management and field leadership to ensure seamless execution from opportunity through project completion.

This position requires strong business acumen, customer relationship management skills, and the ability to balance speed, accuracy, and profitability in a high-demand environment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead the evaluation and preliminary electrical design process for new client opportunities, increasing organizational capacity to capture MEP electrical work.
• Independently assess existing building electrical systems and develop practical, code-compliant design solutions for commercial and industrial environments.
• Develop accurate project scopes, cost estimates, and pricing recommendations to support timely and informed client decision-making.
• Drive measurable growth in electrical design/build revenue by increasing both the volume and quality of successfully captured projects.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, estimators, and field teams to ensure seamless transition from design through execution.
• Establish and refine efficient handoff processes to project management and production teams to ensure smooth project starts.
• Build credibility and trust with internal stakeholders through practical, executable designs aligned with field realities.
• Serve as a go-to technical resource for complex electrical design challenges across multiple concurrent projects.
• Refine and standardize electrical design and estimating practices to improve consistency, margins, and execution efficiency.
• Maintain strong client relationships, effectively communicate with diverse audiences, and support a managed book of business to sustain high levels of customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Seven or more years of hands-on experience designing commercial and industrial electrical systems within an MEP environment.
• Demonstrated ability to independently evaluate existing building electrical systems and develop practical, code-compliant design solutions.
• Strong estimating capability with proven experience developing accurate project scopes, cost estimates, and pricing recommendations.
• Deep working knowledge of electrical codes, ordinances, and industry standards, including NEC and ASHRAE, as applied in real-world projects.
• Proven ability to collaborate closely with project managers and field teams to ensure successful execution.
• Ability to build trust quickly with stakeholders and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
• Licensed Master Electrician or equivalent trade-based background with strong design acumen preferred.
• Licensed Electrical Designer, Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), or actively pursuing PE licensure preferred.
• Experience supporting design/build electrical projects tied to existing client relationships preferred.
