Summer Environmental Educator Wisconsin Conservation Corps

Hunt Hill is a nature preserve and learning center that is open to all and dedicated to fostering understanding, appreciation, and protection of the environment. Our facility boasts some of Wisconsin’s most beautiful and unique habitats–bogs, old-growth forests, meadows, and four glacial lakes. In addition to our beautiful natural surroundings, we offer a variety of programs for visitors of all ages.

Environmental Educators will work with the Program Coordinator to implement effective and interactive environmental education programs for youth at our facility Environmental educators can expect a fun, welcoming work atmosphere that provides invaluable job experience.

May 19, 2026 – August 08, 2026 (450 hours total, 12 weeks, 40-45 Hours/week)

Living stipend total for the whole term = $6,000 ($500 per week). An Ameri Corps Education Award of approximately $1,900 will be awarded upon successful completion of service.

Onsite housing is available for term duration. Meals provided when programming groups are using food services on site.

• Develop and implement fun, hands-on environmental education programs, primarily for youth ages 7-12 years old, in Hunt Hill’s Youth Day Camp program.
• Develop and plan day camp activities and other environmental education programs to meet objectives.
• Create strategies to include campers of all backgrounds and abilities in the daily activities.
• Establish “rainy day” activities and contingency plans for daily activities.
• Develop age-appropriate educational experiences for visiting groups.
• Implement activities engagingly and enthusiastically.
• Lead environmental activities and assist others in delivering them.

• Supervise youth campers during Hunt Hill activities and ensure their safety.
• Supervise groups of about 12 youth during day camps and other activities–including crafts, games, and educational classes, at the waterfront and a mile or more away from our main camp.
• Oversee proper use of facilities and equipment.
• Participate in first aid courses during staff training.
• Enforce rules and policies to ensure youth campers are engaging in safe activities.
• Serve as a lifeguard during scheduled swim and water activities, if certified in provided training.
• Participate in emergency action plan training and understand their operation and implementation.

• Assist in logistics for Public Programs, including set-up and general clean-up of Hunt Hill public programs.
• Serve as a cooperating camp staff team member to help fill in, as needed, with various operations throughout the camp including kitchen chores, general maintenance, trail maintenance, and cleaning.

• Housing accommodations will be determined as a group at the start of the term.
• Housing is provided on site in camp dormitories featuring a twin bed, dresser, closet space, and a shared lounge.
• Depending on the group’s decision, a fridge and microwave may also be available for use in the lounge area.
• Depending on the group’s decision, housing may be shared with 0-3 others.
• Although not air conditioned, dorms tend to stay relatively cool throughout the summer. Fans are provided.
• Onsite staff have access to a full kitchen for storing and preparing meals.
• Members must inform staff of any required accommodations.
• Onsite staff have access to many of the camp features during down times, such as canoes and kayaks, camping equipment, audio/visuals for movie nights, and more.
• Hunt Hill Nature Center and its dormitories are located 15 miles from Spooner, WI, which offers additional amenities including a grocery store.
