Facility Technicians are responsible for setting up facilities such as tables and chairs for special events and programs, representing the department at evening events, and maintaining the Island Grove buildings before, during, and after events. They perform regular cleaning and maintenance, including scheduled deep cleaning, and carry out minor repairs involving basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, drywall and other maintenance tasks. Work days and shift assignments are not yet determined;
candidates must be available for day or evening shifts, occasional overtime up to 12:00 a.m., mid‑week days off, and both Saturday and Sunday.
- One to Two (1-2) years of customer service experience.
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job, and possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Two (2)+ years of related experience within public facilities.
- Two (2) years experience with large events (e.g., arenas).
- Knowledge of maintenance and minor repair as it relates to public buildings.
- Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal.
- Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between others.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple concurrent and competing tasks and responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining personal effectiveness.
- Ability to self‑start and take initiative in completing daily tasks and special projects.
- Ability to focus on activities that have the greatest impact on meeting work commitments.
- Ability to establish and maintain partnerships with a variety of internal and external constituencies.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and ages.
- Knowledge of customer service principles and best practices, including customer needs assessments, meeting quality service standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction.

- Works flexible hours including weekends, holidays and evenings when work demands.

- Operates small equipment such as power tools, shop equipment, lifts, etc., as well as larger equipment including forklifts, loader, skid steer, etc.
- Attends safety sessions and stays informed about safety and emergency procedures.

- Works in varied weather conditions.
- May have some exposure to chemicals, electrical and plumbing materials.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Manual labor and requires prolonged standing and walking.
- May be required to lift 60 lbs. on a frequent basis.
- Manual dexterity enough to operate cleaning equipment, move objects, operate hand and power tools, move and bend, twist and stoop, climb ladders in the performance of job duties.
- Vision enough to perform such functions when identifying materials to complete maintenance tasks.
- Mobility enough to walk over uneven, rocky surfaces.
