Summary/Objective
The GT Specialist will be responsible for identifying, supporting and challenging gifted and talented students. Responsible for developing individual student Advanced Learning Plans, participating and conducting professional development in gifted education objectives, collaborating in finding relevant resources for gifted students, gathering, interpreting and communicating gifted student data from multiple sources and communicating gifted education objectives, activities and successes to all involved in the student's education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Gather, interpret, and communicate gifted student data from multiple sources.
- Oversee the implementation of the program design including identification and advanced learning plan processes.
- Provide ongoing communication about gifted education objectives, activities and successes to all stakeholders.
- Collaborate in finding appropriate resources to meet the needs of gifted students on caseload.
- Participate and lead professional development on characteristics and learning needs of gifted learners.
- Support the school's Strategic Plan for gifted services.
- Facilitates classroom rigor for GT students K-12.
- In collaboration with students, teachers and parents, and in accordance with Colorado laws, writes Advanced Learning Plans for all identified GT students K-12 each fall.
- Plans and executes universal CogAT testing or other cognitive test of all 2nd grade students following the district instructions.
- Seeks out and tests potentially gifted students following state guidelines and with parent approval.
- Collect data and identifies students as gifted following state guidelines, communicating each step with parents.
- Plans, organizes and executes all responsibilities pertaining to the GT program.
- Creates a rigorous, well managed and nurturing classroom environment.
- Creates pull out and/or push in classes for all gifted elementary students in math and literacy.
- Works with secondary teachers to create classroom rigor appropriate for students.
- Works with counselors to ensure secondary students are placed appropriately based on achievement.
- Works to cluster group gifted students in all levels and to place clustered gifted students with teachers who are well versed in the needs of the gifted.
- Creates and presents PDs for teachers.
- Attends District meetings and follows the AUs training guidelines and maintains a good relationship with the district AU.
- Communicates with parents regularly, advocates for gifted students.
- Attends CAGT and other conferences yearly and as appropriate and keeps up to date on all research in educating the gifted and talented.
- Communicates successes and challenges with frequent updates to all administrators.
- Plans and carries out professional goals.
- Explicitly shares high expectations and provides structure and resources to support gifted learners.
- Works with counselors to support the social and emotional needs of the gifted.
- Knowledge of intellectual and social/emotional needs of gifted learners.
- Knowledge of and experience with differentiated instructional strategies.
- Possess strong communication skills.
- Be willing to participate and lead GT professional development.
- Possess strong communication skills, flexibility, and be a self-directed learner.
- Must have a Bachelor's degree in education.
- Master's degree (in related field), preferred.
- Preferred classroom experience working with both elementary and secondary students
- Background check required for hire.
- Current Colorado teacher license with a Gifted & Talented facilitator endorsement. Alternative licensure options available.
