Position Summary:
The Multimedia Designer is responsible for supporting the mission of the university and advancing strategic brand priorities through the design and production of high-quality marketing assets across print and digital platforms. Working within the central Marketing and Communications team, this position contributes to the development, execution and ongoing refinement of creative materials that support university-wide and unit-level marketing initiatives.
This position serves as a visual and digital media creator who manages and coordinates multiple design projects and produces content for a range of channels, including digital campaigns plus paid and organic social media. With a strong foundation in traditional graphic design, the Multimedia Designer applies best practices in visual communication, digital storytelling and accessibility to ensure materials are inclusive, effective and aligned with university brand standards and goals.
The position also integrates print materials into web-accessible PDFs, digital publications and multimedia formats.
The Multimedia Designer works collaboratively with internal Marketing and Communications team members and campus partners to support integrated marketing campaigns that strengthen the university's identity, support recruitment and alumni engagement efforts, and enhance the institution's reputation with internal and external audiences.
Job Duties:
60% Design and produce key university marketing assets for print and digital campaigns and publications. Integrate brand elements, custom graphics and multimedia content into creative materials. Apply best practices in accessibility, visual communication and digital storytelling to ensure materials are inclusive, effective and aligned with university brand standards. Convert print materials into web-accessible PDFs, digital publications or other multimedia formats. Provide art and photo direction as needed, track progress of projects according to timelines and priorities set by project managers and provide guidance to other designers when appropriate.
15% Communicate with supervisor and team to ensure timely production of materials.
10% Participate in the creative brief process for new projects or major redesigns, contributing creative design suggestions, choices of print materials or digital specifications and timeline possibilities.
5% Consult with clients to clarify design needs and offer guidance on design solutions that align with university brand standards and accessibility requirements.
5% Contribute to improving internal marketing processes and educating campus partners on integrating communications and adhering to brand standards.
5% Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design/Fine Arts/Multimedia.
Or
Completion of study and/or certification from an accredited art school or art institute.
Or
The equivalent combination of education and experience in the field.
If equivalency is used in lieu of degree - at least six years of experience.
At least four years professional experience.
Experience needs to be full competent and diverse design work in print with some web media. This position needs to possess a thorough understanding of fast-paced deadlines and multi-design work using many forms of design software. This position requires good verbal and written skills and the ability to teach others.
On-the-job training:
General organization of university - three months
Key messages, audiences and university goals - three months university graphic standards - three months
Nature of key print pieces - three months
Familiarity with need and styles of campus clients - six months
