The Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission is an award winning organization with over 5,000 employees that administers over 52,000 acres of stream valley parks, large regional parks, neighborhood parks and park-school recreation areas throughout Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. In Prince George’s County, we are also responsible for developing the County’s public recreation programs.
Subsequently, the Department of Parks & Recreation has the overall responsibility for planning, supervising and coordinating all park/recreation facilities and services throughout Prince George’s County. The Maintenance & Development Division (M&D) is the largest Division within this Department and is composed of six major work areas:
Fleet Management, Buildings & Structures (Trade Shops), Horticulture & Forestry (Roads & Grounds), Major Maintenance & Inspection, Critical Projects (Aquatics, ADA, Heavy Equipment and Roads and Grounds) and the Administrative section. The mission of M&D is to provide professional, high quality maintenance and maintenance support services for all parks and recreation facilities and to support the diverse work programs of the Parks & Recreation Department in Prince George’s County and its customers.
The Electrician II is responsible for performing the full range of difficult, skilled electrical work involving considerable responsibility, complexity, and variety. Performs and directs installation, renovation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems in Commission buildings, structures, and property. May direct activities of Electricians, Trades Trainees, and Park/General Maintenance Workers who support skilled trades workers. Work is checked by Trade Shop Supervisors, Lead Electricians, and Inspectors.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Plans work. Receives work orders for electrical projects. Reads and interprets blueprints, building plans, sketches, and schematic drawings to determine equipment, materials, and methods. Inspects electrical systems at Commission buildings, structures, and property to detect problems and ensure compliance with electrical code. Recommends corrective action and prepares estimates. Uses a variety of manual and power tools and test equipment to perform and direct installation and major renovation work, and maintenance and repair of all types of electrical systems, devices, and equipment.
Troubleshoots distribution circuits, generating, and controlling equipment by using appropriate testing devices to locate malfunctions and make repairs.
Maintains inventory and assigns power equipment, tools, safety equipment, and vehicles to crew. Completes required administrative paperwork and record keeping. Drives motor vehicles to carry workers and haul tools, equipment, materials and supplies. Loads and unloads truck of tools, equipment, supplies and materials. Sets up equipment and tolls for safe operation at work site. Provides routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
Takes vehicles to garage for maintenance and repairs. Assigns and checks work of other Electricians, Trades Trainees, Park/General Maintenance Workers and seasonal/intermittent employees who support skilled trades. Assists with training on proper procedures, trade methods and safety.
