The Prince George’s County Office of Finance is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Senior Grant Accountant, (Accountant 3G) grade G24 position, in the Accounting Division
.

About the Position

The Senior Grant Accountant will be responsible for working with County agencies to ensure the comprehensive post-award financial management of federal and state grants, ensuring strict adherence to 2 CFR Part 200—Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards, GAAP, and County policies. This advanced-level position oversees the full grant life cycle, including validating that grant projects are set up correctly, performing complex reconciliations including budget-to-actual analysis, and conducting drawdowns for reimbursement.

They will prepare detailed financial reports, monitor subrecipient compliance, and coordinate audits to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the County’s financial records. Additionally, the Senior Grant Accountant analyzes financial data, identifies and resolves discrepancies, and may offer guidance to agency staff and junior accounting staff.

About the Agency

The Office of Finance is dedicated to maximizing available resources and delivering creative and innovative financial services to a wide range of internal and external customers of the County.

The Office of Finance:

  • Controls all cash and investments to assure maximum safety, liquidity and yield.
  • Collects all revenues and receipts due to the County, including property taxes.
  • Conducts tax sales to collect delinquent property taxes.
  • Processes and/or monitors payments to vendors, employees, or other payees for goods, services, and other liabilities.
  • Processes biweekly payroll for 6,000 employees and monthly payroll for 2,000 retirees.
  • Certifies availability of funds for payment of liabilities and obligations.
  • Maintains system of accounts and records for all financial transactions.
  • Reports results of financial operations using established reporting standards and methods.
  • Facilitates annual financial audit process.
  • Supports the legislative process - including composing and reviewing draft resolutions and bills, esp., those involving complex financial issues.
  • Reviews monthly trial balances to ensure system integrity and identify questionable activity for errors or omissions.
  • Performs analytic review of accounts to identify errors in grant activity.
  • Reviews financial transactions and expenditures to ensure compliance with appropriation authority, adequacy of accounting information, and of the transaction within the parameters established by policies, laws, and others.
  • Reviews journal entries and supporting documentation for conformity with GAAP and County policies in the County's financial system.
  • Prepares adjusting and reclassification journal entries including chargebacks and year-end accruals, to ensure the accurate reporting of fund activity consistent with generally accepted accounting and reporting standards.
  • Prepares working papers, schedules, and other supporting documentation reflecting work effort.
  • Processes grant drawdowns; reviews grant loan documents and records grant wires.
  • Receives grant reimbursement checks and prepares cash journals.
  • Ensures grant reimbursements are recorded timely and accurately.
