Position OverviewAs a Mechanic Intern, you’ll work in the shop, learning the repair and maintenance practices necessary to keep our equipment fleet operating safely and efficiently. You will gain experience with a wide variety of equipment, and learn about inventory management, safety regulations, and work order processes.
This position runs from May through August.
You can expect:- Hands-on experience with different types of heavy equipment.
- Opportunities to work on troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
- Training on the use of work orders, inventory systems, and vehicle condition reporting.
- Exposure to state and federal regulations (DOT, OSHA, MSHA).
- A fast-paced environment where you’ll work closely with experienced mechanics.
- Assist with the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment, including loaders, graders, pavers, dump trucks, and trailers.
- Help with the work order process, from creation to completion.
- Learn to troubleshoot mechanical issues and conduct preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment.
- Support inventory management and track vehicle condition reports.
- Become familiar with safety regulations and compliance requirements for the fleet.
- Enrolled in a Technical College degree program.
- Ability to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and possible overtime.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Diesel experience highly preferred.
- Current CDL or ability to obtain CDL preferred.
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
