Responsible for maintaining the sterile field in the operating room, constantly vigilant to ensure proper aseptic techniques are used to prevent contamination and infection. The CSFA provides immediate support to the surgeon and surgical team, acts as a vital resource in the operating room suite, aids in case turnover, and handles delegated patient care duties. Call required.

• Maintain sterile field and assist with equipment setup and turnover.
• Support surgical teamwork by providing a team‑like attitude and timely responses.
• Follow directions from Operating Room RN, Surgeon Providers, Anesthesia Providers, and Periop leadership.
• Give direction to Instrument Processor, Surgical Technician, and Surgical Tech Students.

• Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing (LPN or RN only) or a Surgical Technician Program.
• Graduated from an approved Surgical 1st Assist Program.

• 2–3 years as a Certified Surgical Technician in other specialties (CVOR, General, Ortho, Urology, Plastics, Neuro, Spine, ENT, GYN, etc.) – preferred.

• Completion of an approved Surgical 1st Assist Program and successful exam through the NBSTSA.

• Basic medical terminology and anatomy.
• Asepsis and sterile technique.
• Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
• Use of customary equipment for essential functions of the position.

• Criminal background check.
• Drug screening.
• Health and immunizations screening.
