Position: Senior Practitioner – Children’s (Social Care Qualified)

Neway International are seeking a Senior Practitioner – Children’s (Social Care Qualified) to join our client based with Thurrock Council.

About the Client

Thurrock Council’s Children’s Services directorate is committed to delivering high‑quality, child‑centred support across its safeguarding and family support teams. Family Support Team 5 works with children and families at varying levels of need, ensuring timely interventions, robust safeguarding practice, and positive outcomes for vulnerable young people.

The Role

The Senior Practitioner will provide specialist support, oversight, and direct intervention for children and families experiencing social, emotional, or safeguarding challenges. You will undertake assessments, develop care plans, and work collaboratively with multi‑agency partners to ensure safe, effective, and timely support. This role requires a confident, experienced practitioner with strong safeguarding knowledge and the ability to manage complex cases, including CIN, CP, PLO, and court‑related work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete comprehensive assessments of children’s needs, risks, and strengths.
  • Develop and implement tailored care and support plans.
  • Provide emotional support, crisis intervention, and direct work with children and families.
  • Liaise with partner agencies to coordinate services and ensure effective multi‑agency working.
  • Advocate for children’s rights and access to appropriate resources.
  • Maintain accurate, timely case records in line with statutory and organisational requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance with safeguarding legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage and progress cases across CIN, CP, PLO, and court proceedings, including preparing statements.
Candidate Requirements
  • Degree in Social Work.
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Experience working with vulnerable children and families.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and social care systems.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organisational skills.
  • Proven experience managing CIN, CP, PLO, and court cases.
