About The Role

Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a terrific opportunity for a Security Manager to join our £1.2 billion Lower Thames Crossing project, consisting of 43 bridges, including viaducts, 17km of complex Highways construction, complex utility diversions, and a scheme-wide, industry leading approach to carbon reduction.

As a Security Manager
, you will be tasked to lead the physical security operations across all LTC compounds including construction enclaves, associated site offices, and welfare facilities. This critical role will ensure the safety and integrity of the project’s operational areas by managing access control, site surveillance, incident response, and contractor compliance with security protocols.

What you'll be doing
  • Physical Security Oversight:
    Manage and maintain the security infrastructure for all designated construction enclaves, site offices, and welfare facilities. This includes the provision of CCTV and other specialist security measures.
  • Access Control:
    Develop and implement access control procedures and systems to prevent unauthorised entry to restricted areas and ensure personnel accountability on-site.
  • Security Staff Management:
    Coordinate the deployment and supervision of Security Officers (SO) across the project. Ensure all SOs and contracted security teams adhere to BB site rules and security standards.
  • Incident Management:
    Lead BB security/emergency response to any security incidents or breaches, including investigation, documentation, and reporting in accordance with project protocols.
  • Risk Assessment & Mitigation:
    Conduct regular security risk assessments, identifying potential vulnerabilities and implementing measures to mitigate threats.
  • Collaboration & Coordination:
    Liaise daily with the Programme Leads to align security operations with broader logistics planning. Report regularly to the Project Security Lead with updates, concerns, and recommendations. Develop and implement security briefings, collaborating with stakeholders to deliver daily site inductions to all construction personnel.
  • Security Awareness:
    Drive Security Culture across the programme and deliver security education and awareness in line with Balfour Beatty Group strategy.
Who we're looking for
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience in managing physical security and/or logistics in large scale construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Background in military, law enforcement, or private security preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of site access control systems, CCTV operations, and incident reporting procedures.
  • Experience in designing and delivering specialist training across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Familiarity with occupational health and safety standards within a construction environment
Desirable
  • Security certifications (e.g., CPP, PSP, or equivalent).
  • First aid or emergency response training.
  • Experience in managing third‑party security providers.
