Senior Commercial Manager

About the Role

Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a terrific opportunity for a Solutions Engineer to join our £1.2 billion Lower Thames Crossing project, consisting of 43 bridges, including viaducts, 17 km of complex highways construction, complex utility diversions, and a scheme-wide, industry-leading approach to carbon reduction. Balfour Beatty Highways maintain, manage and operate major highway networks across the UK and support local authorities creating communities where people want to live, work and play.

As a Senior Commercial Manager you will report to and deputise for the Project Commercial Director on the Lower Thames Crossing Roads North, valued at over £1.2 bn. You will be responsible for the financial management of this major, complex project through the development phase and through construction.

• Ensure that the commercial performance of all projects is monitored and reported, and business objectives are achieved
• Protect BB’s commercial position at all times, including evaluation, avoidance and/or mitigation of any potential commercial risks on projects and for the Highways business generally
• Represent the company in (sub) contract negotiations and meetings, ensuring favourable terms and outcomes are obtained
• Maintain good working relationships with other stakeholders, and be a key member of the management team
• Maintain proper control and substantiation of variations between the sub‑contractor and BB
• Support the Supply Chain Managers to engender behavioural activities to develop a more mature and close supply partner base
• Lead and promote the initiatives to deliver 25% by 2025 and cost reduction of 15% to 10% people cost within areas of influence
• Provide commercial support to peripheral activities associated with the Highways business
• Support the delivery of the business’s sustainability activities

• The individual will have appropriate qualifications, and professional membership of the RICS, CInstCES or similar is desirable
• Will hold a valid CSCS card
• Evidence of recent management/leadership development is required
• Significant commercial and management experience within civil engineering
• Proven senior manager level experience with a main contractor managing major projects
• Proven track record of depth of experience in the field of commercial management
