Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Building Maintenance, HVAC Tech / Heating Engineer, Plumber
Under general supervision, assesses function/operation and performs advanced maintenance, repair, and general upkeep for indoor and outdoor parks and recreation facilities, athletic complexes, aquatics facilities, playgrounds, rental pavilions, trails and general amenities, spaces and infrastructure throughout the Parks and Recreation Department including electrical systems, plumbing systems, communication systems and other mechanical systems and equipment.
- Base knowledge of federal, state and local regulations applicable to electrical, HVAC, plumbing and buildings.
- Working knowledge of building trades (plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, etc.) and of equipment used in those trades.
- Knowledge of safety practices used in repairing and servicing electrical, plumbing, and construction maintenance.
- Skill in the use of a variety of hand, power tools and operating equipment used in the repair, servicing and fabrication of mechanical equipment.
- Ability to assess situations, troubleshoot maintenance issues and make appropriate repairs.
- Willing and able to operate/work from elevated positions using a bucket lift.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise records, reports, correspondence and other written materials.
- Availability for day, evening, weekend, holiday and on‑call shifts when necessary.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to work independently and effectively even with minimal supervision.
Associate’s degree or completion of a two‑year training program from an accredited trade or technical school or two years’ experience is required. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Knowledge of digital communication systems (for Wi‑Fi, irrigation, weather stations, etc.) is a plus.
- Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check and credit check.
- Must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
- Must pass a pre‑employment basic physical, drug screen, and functional assessment screening (Level 1).
