General Purpose

The Retail Associate ensures customers have a positive shopping experience by greeting them courteously, treating fellow associates with respect, maintaining a clean work area, and presenting merchandise properly.

Essential Functions
  • Practice safe behaviors and protect safety as the top priority.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor, keep egress clear, and report unsafe conditions.
  • Treat all customers and associates with respect and courtesy; greet everyone with eye contact, smiles, and friendly language.
  • Assist customers with merchandise, answer questions, and provide efficient help at all times.
  • Handle all customer service calls promptly, resolve issues, and involve store leadership when needed.
  • Represent and support the Ross brand at all times.
  • Clean daily—sweep, mop, dust, wipe counters, mirrors, and restrooms; disinfect high‑touch areas; replenish supplies.
  • Keep a professional appearance and follow the company's dress code.
  • Perform daily store sizing, recovery, and merchandising to maintain store standards.
  • Expedite received merchandise, apply merchandising guidelines, and maintain product familiarity.
  • Familiarize with Loss Prevention, Shortage Highway, and Store Protection standards.
  • Demonstrate integrity, safeguard confidential information, cash, credit, and merchandise.
  • Follow and process Mark‑Out‑of‑Stock (MOS) policies, notifying leadership for disposal approval.
  • Adhere to policies for cash, checks, charge cards, refunds, voids, and offline procedures.
  • Use all store equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Show urgency and efficiency in performance and workflow, maximizing productivity.

Qualifications and Special Skills
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with customers, associates, and leadership.
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations used in retail environments.
Physical Requirements / ADA
  • Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs.
  • Stand, walk, and move around the store for 100% of the work time.
  • Regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds.
  • Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
  • Some assignments may require additional qualifications.
  • For stockroom shifts, regularly push, pull, and lift more than 20 pounds.
