Position Overview

This position is a temporary status for new employees while they attend and satisfactorily complete the Basic Course in Applied Police Science (BCAPS, basic police academy) and acquire a Texas Peace Officer’s License by taking and passing the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) licensing exam. After passing the academy and the TCOLE test, the employee will be promoted to the Police Officer position and will normally work on a probationary status while in the academy and for one year after swearing in date with the City of Grapevine Police Department.

Step A: $38.90/hour;
Approximately $80,912.00 annually

Step B: $40.85/hour;
Approximately $84,968.00 annually

Step C: $42.89/hour;
Approximately $89,211.20 annually

Step D: $45.03/hour;
Approximately $93,662.40 annually

Step E: $47.29/hour;
Approximately $98,363.20 annually

Step F: $49.66/hour;

Step G: $50.65/hour;

Training Requirements
  • Attend BCAPS at a local accredited training facility approved by the Chief of Police.
  • Pass all written and physical tests to satisfactorily complete the course.
  • Adhere to the rules and regulations of the Grapevine Police Department, City of Grapevine, and the training facility.
  • Attend all courses related to the BCAPS program. Any absence must be approved by the designated supervisor and should not exceed 5% of required attendance.
  • Pass the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) licensing exam.
  • Complete internal policy and procedure training and other duties scheduled by the department before beginning BCAPS.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED plus 2 years active military service with an honorable discharge.
  • High School Diploma or GED plus licensed Peace Officer from another state or qualifying federal officer (TCOLE requirements), in good standing, with 2 years full-time continuous employment post academy and within 4 years of application.
  • High School Diploma or GED plus a Peace Officer License from Texas (TCOLE) with an Honorable Discharge (if applicable).
  • 30 college hours from an accredited institution prior to the hire date.
  • Be at least 21 years of age or older.
  • Have or be eligible to obtain a valid Texas driver’s license by hire date.
  • Employees designated to drive a commercial motor vehicle in a non-emergency situation must have and maintain a CDL driver’s license.
  • Pass a full background investigation, polygraph exam, and psychological exam.
  • Pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, functional assessment screening (Level
    1), Titmus vision screening, Ishihara vision screening, and smell test.
Applicants Must NOT
  • Have any DWI (alcohol or drugs) convictions in the last ten years.
  • Have any felony convictions.
  • Have been convicted, put on court-ordered community supervision, or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years.
  • Have any convictions, deferred adjudication, or probation for assault family violence or theft.
