Cibola General Hospital is hiring
We’re seeking a Nursing Assistant to join our team of compassionate caregivers. Our 25-bed critical access hospital supports professional growth and development with the latest technologies. Cibola General Hospital is one hour from Albuquerque and close to Santa Fe. Grants, NM offers a mild climate, outdoor activities, low property taxes, and affordable housing.
Cibola General Hospital provides services in general surgery, 24-hour Emergency care, Intensive Care, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics, Pathology, Pediatric Dentistry, Podiatry, Primary Care and Radiology with X-ray, CT, MRI. We have three operating rooms including a room for scopes. Clinics, Lab services, Pharmacy, Cardiopulmonary, Rehab, and skilled care beds are provided.
Position SummaryThe nursing assistant is responsible for administering direct patient care and performing any other duties deemed necessary to insure optimal patient care, under the direction of a Professional Nurse.
Major FunctionsUnder the supervision and/or direction of the Nursing Supervisor, Staff Nurse or Director of Nursing, performs various duties assisting Staff Nurses in the treatment and care of patients in accordance with established hospital methods and procedures.
Responsibilities- Assumes direct patient care responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor/Staff Nurse.
- Administers daily care in an effective, timely manner, including:
- AM/PM care, backrubs, and shaving.
- Ambulation assistance, elimination assistance, dressing/undressing patients, changing bed linens.
- Catheter care and carries out special orders or treatments as directed by the Team Leader.
- Special skin care, specimen collection, intake and output, vital signs, and applying compresses.
- Preoperative and postoperative care, including enemas, vaginal irrigations, and surgical preps.
- Other duties as directed by the supervisor, including patient and family support and teamwork.
- Observes patient conditions and reports any untoward signs, symptoms, or unusual occurrences to the Nursing Supervisor or assigned nurse.
- Maintains current documentation of patient status on Treatment Sheet and reports as required.
- Assists in admission, transfer, and discharge of patients; responds to patient call lights promptly.
- Assists in transporting patients to surgery and completes special assignments timely (e.g., removing trash, passing fresh linen, cleaning food refrigerators, providing fresh water).
- Cleans equipment after use and inspects for damage; assists other staff as needed.
- Acts as a preceptor for new nursing assistants and participates in unit activities as assigned.
- Attends unit staff meetings (75% attendance for full-time employees) and adheres to patient safety protocols.
- Performs procedures safely according to hospital policies and participates in CPR requirements.
- Maintains vigilance over patients (every hour) and ensures safety precautions (rails up, call lights within reach, bed in low position).
- Maintains an orderly patient room and assists patients at discharge.
- Demonstrates professionalism, maintains confidentiality, respects patient privacy, and adheres to chain of command.
- Shows willingness to learn, relieve in other areas as needed, and participate in in-service education programs.
- Relieves the professional nurse of clerical and non-technical duties when possible and demonstrates proficiency in listed tasks.
- Answers intercom and unit phone promptly; serves and removes diet trays as needed and records I & O accurately.
- Presents nourishments to patients; assists with bedpans, urinals, bedside commodes, and oral hygiene including dentures care.
- Provides hair and nail care, back rubs, and skin care; assists with baths and turning to prevent pressure sores.
- Assists with positioning, ambulation, and use of assistive devices; transports patients as required.
- Uses mechanical devices correctly (foot boards, linen cradle, trapeze, K-pad, ice packs) and follows infection control practices (hand hygiene, gowning, gloving, masking).
- Assists in pre- and postoperative care and participates in fire/disaster/emergency readiness.
- May provide Foley care as needed.
