Medical Assistant – After Hours Clinic
We’re seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team of compassionate caregivers at Cibola General Hospital, a 25‑bed critical access hospital located in Grants, NM, just one hour from Albuquerque and close to Santa Fe. Our hospital offers comprehensive services including general surgery, 24‑hour emergency care, intensive care, internal medicine, obstetrics, pathology, pediatric dentistry, podiatry, primary care, and radiology. Job Summary &.createdbycopeThe Medical Assistant I is responsible for assisting providers with the care and treatment of patients. This includes taking patients back, recording vitals (weight, blood pressure, and other vitals), assisting with exams, and performing CLIA‑waived testing as needed. The position also covers receptionist duties when they are unavailable.
Principal Responsibilities- Call patients back and record necessary vitals in the medical record.
- Assist with procedures.
- Run CLIA‑waived tests such as dipstickshof urine, accu check, pregnancy tests, etc.
- Phone patients for follow‑ups or to schedule appointments for test results.
- Schedule referrals and prepare and send records as necessary.
- Pull records and place results for the provider’s review.
- Triage phone calls and emergency visits when necessary.
- Maintain the proper format of the medical record per office policies.
- Order necessary supplies.
- Assist with filing of records; act as backup for the receptionist.
- Follow the code of conduct and office policies and procedures.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Certified MA or CNA preferred.
- CPR certification.
- Proficient in the use of a computer and other office equipment (fax, calculator, copier, etc.).
- Ability to run CLIA‑waived tests.
- Ability to administer medications or vaccines by injection.
- Proficient in reading and documenting medical records.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal ability.
The position requires the ability to perform simple manipulative skills frequently; hand‑eye coordination; honesty walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods; seeing objects clearly and hearing normal sounds with some background noise; and lifting occasional items. It may involve frequent stress and requires effective communication and multitasking.
