The Commercial Department Director is a senior leadership role responsible for the full strategic, financial, and operational ownership of Insurance Lounge’s Commercial Insurance Department. This individual is accountable for commercial production growth, retention, renewal execution, service excellence, underwriting results, compliance, team performance, executive planning, reporting, and growth innovation.
This role requires an experienced commercial insurance leader who has personally written, serviced, and managed complex commercial accounts and has successfully built and led commercial teams. The Commercial Department Director functions as a production leader as well as a strategic planner and growth driver, bringing forward new ideas, carrier opportunities, and initiatives to expand the agency’s commercial footprint.

Primary Objectives- Drive profitable commercial premium and policy count growth through personal production, team training and department planning and innovation
- Identify, propose, and execute new commercial growth initiatives
- Strengthen and expand carrier partnerships aligned with agency growth goals
- Protect and improve commercial retention and renewal outcomes
- Provide consistent, data‑driven reporting and insights to the executive team
- Develop, lead, and retain a high‑performing commercial insurance team
- Maintain accurate, actionable data within Applied Epic to support executive decision‑making
Own the overall direction, structure, and performance of the Commercial Insurance Department. Build annual and quarterly department plans that define growth targets, retention goals, staffing needs, and operational priorities. Proactively develop and present new ideas for commercial growth, including vertical strategies, product expansion, and process improvements.
Executive Planning, Tracking & ReportingDevelop measurable commercial department plans aligned with Insurance Lounge’s strategic goals. Track progress against established KPIs and initiatives, identify risks and variances, and provide regular, structured reporting to the executive team. Present growth proposals, carrier opportunities, trends, and recommendations to support leadership decision‑making.
Carrier Partnerships & Market ExpansionIdentify, evaluate, and recommend new carrier appointments, programs, and market relationships to support commercial growth. Maintain strong senior‑level relationships and proactively bring forward partnership opportunities that improve placement options, profitability, and scalability.
Growth & Sales LeadershipDrive new business production, account expansion, and cross‑sell opportunities. Support and coach producers on pipeline management, submission quality, closing strategies, and complex account placement.
Renewals, Retention & Service OversightOwn commercial retention metrics and renewal timelines. Ensure proactive renewal workflows are executed consistently and accurately. Oversee endorsements, audits, mid‑term changes, premium finance agreements and carrier book of business metrics.
Team Leadership & Talent DevelopmentLead commercial producers, account managers, CSRs, and support staff. Define roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations. Coach, mentor, and develop team members while supporting hiring, onboarding, and production.
