This position will be located at a USDA Forest Service Unit within the Pacific Northwest Region, Region 6.
This position is responsible for providing expert technical knowledge and leadership in the field of rappelling and related aviation and wildland fire suppression operations.

Duties- Duties listed are at full performance grade GW- 11 level.
- Plans and administers a diverse range of complex aviation field and program operations. Participates in the formulation, development and execution of rappel operations.
- Determines and monitors resources needed to implement plans; and ensures the program is in compliance. As required may serve as a district/zone forest duty officer and may oversee fixed wing operations at the base.
- Provides technical and administrative supervision, plans/assigns work, and evaluates work performance.
- Performs human resource functions to further EEO and nondiscriminatory practices. Provides leadership in the fire safety and health program; evaluates risk and identifies safety requirements.
- Performs day to day contract administration, responsible for financial management, and enforcing helicopter contract provisions.
- Serves as instructor responsible for planning, administering, developing and implementing wildland firefighting and aviation management operations.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served. Refer to the Next Steps section for more information.

- This is a drug testing designated position. You will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. Appointment is based on a negative result. This announcement constitutes 30 days advance notice.
- Must pass the Work Capacity Test for certain Interagency Fire Program Management or Fire Program Management positions.
- Subject to one year supervisory/managerial probationary period unless prior service is creditable. New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required training program before the end of their probationary period.
- Secondary Coverage:
Prior wildland firefighting experience is required. - Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable).
- Some Fire positions may have Conditions of Employment such as: a valid state driver's license; a commercial driver's license (CDL); pre-appointment and random drug testing; or a physical or medical examination.
