The challenging but rewarding career of a Life Skills Education Assistant (also known as a Para-Professional) helps students with disabilities under the direction of a Certified Teacher. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to observe a class and ask questions prior to formal offer.
Qualifications- Work under the direction of a certified teacher and assist them in successfully conducting lessons, setting up equipment and activities.
- Ability to independently monitor and supervise special needs students in the classroom, between classes and during lunch in small groups or one-on-one.
- Flexibility and initiative to encourage and nurture students.
- Patience and ability to enforce good behavior and provide discipline with dignity.
- The physical ability to regularly stand, walk or sit on the floor while working with students in different settings.
- The physical ability to regularly move, lift or restrain students.
- This position could include assisting students with toileting routines and needs.
- Helping at meal times to feed students with a variety of abilities, possibly including tube feeding.
- Provide medical support or intervention.
- Ability to meet standards of the Life Skills Educational Assistant (Para-Professional).

- Two (2) years of college coursework or Associate's Degree (may be waived pending successful performance on skills test administered by the District).
- High School Diploma or GED required.
