Trainee Business Development Executive – Machinery & Engineering

Hours:

Monday – Friday, 8am–5pm / 8am–3pm (flexible)

Role Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically minded individual looking to start a career in business development and technical sales. You will spend the first 3 months gaining hands-on experience with industrial machinery, learning products inside out, before moving into a proactive sales and business development role. The position combines product knowledge, lead generation, and customer engagement, providing a strong foundation for a career in technical sales.

Key Responsibilities

* Spend initial 3 months on the workshop/factory floor learning machinery, operations, and technical specifications.

* Research and generate new leads through cold calling, targeting local SMEs, builders, landscapers, and plant hire companies.

* Qualify leads and manage opportunities through the sales pipeline.

* Conduct product demonstrations at customer sites when required.

* Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and distributors.

* Understand customer needs and recommend suitable machinery solutions.

* Support marketing and sales campaigns to promote products and services.

Person Specification

Essential:

* Technically minded with an interest in machinery, manufacturing, or construction equipment.

* Full UK driving license and willingness to travel across the UK.

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

* Self-motivated and proactive, comfortable making cold calls and identifying new business opportunities.

* Eager to develop a career in technical sales/business development.

Desirable:

* Experience in construction, landscaping, recycling, or plant hire sectors.

* Familiarity with CRM systems or sales software.

* Hands-on experience with machinery or mechanical aptitude
